GARY & KAREN LEWIS: FOUNDERS OF MARKETPLACE MISSIONS
Gary and Karen Lewis are the founders of Marketplace Missions. They formed Marketplace Missions in 1994 and have served as President and Vice President of Marketplace Missions, a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation, since that time. The Lewis’ began serving in Ministry in the early 1980’s. After serving as Pastor of a church in Rocklin, California for 12 years, the Lewis’ felt God’s call to serve as Missionaries in Latin American countries. In 1995, they began their missionary work in El Salvador, Central America. In 2004, the Lewis’ relocated to Baja, Mexico and began a new work in San Felipe, Baja. The current focus of their work is funding and operating Sonshine Hacienda, a home for abused and abandoned children in the Baja area as well as pastoring a non-denominational, English speaking church in San Felipe. MPM also helps churches put together mission trips. An MPM staff member will train your leaders on how to put together a mission trip and then train the participants in what to expect in a different culture. All that is asked is that travel expenses be covered.

Robert D. (Bob) Lewis (no relation to Gary and Karen Lewis) is the Vice President for Mission Support Development for Marketplace Missions (MPM). He also does general missionary work as needed in San Felipe. Bob is an ordained minister and a church consultant. Bob holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Theology degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree. He has served as the senior pastor for several different churches and as the Associate Director of Evangelism for the California Southern Baptist Convention. He retired from the position of Executive Director of Sacramento Association of Southern Baptist Churches in December 2006.

Debbie Lewis, is the bookkeeper for Marketplace Missions, Inc. She retired in 2012 after 22 years as a middle school secretary at Woodside K-8 in the San Juan Unified School District in Carmichael, CA, a suberb of Sacramento, CA.

Bob and Debbie have three children and five grandchildren. They are pictured with two of their grandchildren, Audrey and Mollie Page.

Bob and Debbie were commissioned as missionaries by their home church in Granite Bay, CA, called Fellowship Church of Granite Bay (www.gofellowship.org). Their pastor is Mike Harrison. In San Felipe they worship and are part of Mission San Felipe (www.missionsanfelipe.org).

Dr. Tony Carlile, M.D. is an internist at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Roseville, California, and serves as Director of Medical Services for Marketplace Missions (MPM).
